FIFTH SUNDAY
OF EASTER
Part of the great revelation of the New Testament is the notion that
God is coming among us to make all things new; that means removing all the
causes of guilt and grief in human life. We show our acceptance of this
renewal of our lives by our love for one another. |

FOURTH SUNDAY
OF EASTER
(Day of Prayer for Vocations)
Sometimes we can lose our sense of direction, we become the prey of empty
fears and false pleasures. Today we are reminded that in Jesus we have
someone who will always guide us right and protect us. If we listen to him
and follow him we will have the fullest possible life. |

THIRD SUNDAY
OF EASTER
It is difficult for us to accept suffering as part of God's plan.
Today we are reminded that it was part of his plan for the Messiah. It was a
suffering that he transformed by raising him from the dead. Jesus is this
Risen Lord, in him our weakness and our sins are overcome. |

SECOND SUNDAY
OF EASTER
(Divine Mercy Sunday)
We are all a bit like Thomas, unless we see we find it difficult to
believe. However, faith is a way of seeing, seeing beyond the apparent
problems of life to the hope given by the Resurrection of Jesus; the hope of
sharing heaven with Him. |

EASTER SUNDAY
Today we face the greatest mystery of our faith, the mystery of how
God works among us, bringing new life where before was only death. With a
sense of wonder and with joy, we come today to thank God for the risen life
of Jesus. |

PASSION
(PALM) SUNDAY
Jesus was tortured and humiliated by the pride and self-will of
people. He accepted this fate so as to overcome human destructiveness. His
humble attentiveness to God allows God's power to be active and recreative. |

FIFTH
SUNDAY OF LENT
Jesus' Hour was approaching, the Hour which He would have to face
alone, the Hour of his final act of obedience to the Father. Because of that
Hour Jesus is no longer alone, He draws all to himself. If we can die with
him we too will not be alone for ever. |

FOURTH
SUNDAY OF LENT
Jesus came among us to light our way to true humanity, our way to
God. Our reaction to him is a sign of the kind of people we are. It is also
a sign of what our future will be. Our judgement will depend on our faith in
him. |

THIRD
SUNDAY OF LENT
Jesus came on earth as the complete embodiment of God's presence
among men. We are all called to become one with him in the image of God by
keeping his commandments. |

SECOND
SUNDAY OF LENT
To be asked to offer up your only Son was a terrible sacrifice. In
the end Abraham was not asked to make it, but God Himself has offered it for
us. It is from this sacramental gift that all our blessings come. |

FIRST
SUNDAY OF LENT
As we begin Lent again, we learn that we need to be purified of our
sins. Jesus went out into the desert to be put to the test for us, to
overcome Satan. If we go into the desert with him, whatever is evil in our
lives can be overcome. |

SEVENTH
SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Christians are required to answer hatred with goodness, curses with
blessings and ill treatment with prayer. As descendants of Adam, this is
difficult, but through the power of Christ and his Holy Spirit, we can
succeed. |

SIXTH
SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
A leper was an outcast, an untouchable. The love of Christ brought
such people back into the community. We who follow Christ are called never
to ostracise another, never to isolate those who don't fit into our ways.
Our task is to help them along. |

FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
When we are sick or our lives are disturbed in some way we tend to
see the darkness and to turn in on ourselves. The healing that we need is
more than a physical one, it involves being freed from self-concern to care
for others. |

FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
For some people it is a fearful thing to imagine being face to face
with God. For those in Christ, however, such fear is overcome because with
him the presence of God neither torments nor annihilates but brings human
life to perfection. |

THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Both Jonah and Jesus brought urgent messages for the need for
repentance and change in peoples lives. Such change was needed to make them
open to the action of God. If there is to be unity among the followers of
Christ, we all need to change. |

SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
The call of God comes in different ways. To Samuel it came by night,
mysterious, uncertain. To Andrew it came as an invitation from Jesus ‘Come
and see’. Whatever our vocation (and we all have one) our response must
always be ‘Speak Lord. Your servant is listening’. |

THE
BAPTISM OF THE LORD
At his baptism Jesus was revealed as the Son of God and began his
work of bringing the vision of God, his justice and his liberation to
people. At our baptism each of us is given a share in this mission,
so we become children of
God. |
