We belong to the rule of Christ who rules not by being served but by his service of people, a service so radical that it led to his death. The
cross is Christ's throne: on the cross he is lifted up and makes peace between God and humankind. Those who follow his rule of service will share in his kingdom of peace.

THIRTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
The Pharisees fault was not gratitude for doing good but contempt for those less successful, a lack of humility before the grace of God. Paul too could boast and give thanks that he had kept the faith, but he recognised that this had not been simply his own doing but because the Lord stood by me. We too should thank God for any good we have been able to do. It is with his help that we do it, and it gives us no grounds for complacency or a sense of superiority.

TWENTY -
NINTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
By its nature, the Church is missionary. Christ sent her to let her light shine to the whole human race. We cannot leave this task to the professionals. The prophets and the apostles were ordinary lay people when chosen to speak and act in Gods name. As the result of our baptism, each of us has a duty to work for the missions in our own special way and in our own particular place.

Jesus lamented the fact that the children of light are not as astute at doing good as the wicked are at looking after themselves. It may be that some of our ineffectiveness in doing good arises from a lack of total commitment to God. We cannot have it both ways; self-concerned and love of God dont mix.

The vocation to serve God does not follow a standard pattern, it is as unique as the person who is

God does not spring from innate human goodness as much as from the forgiving power of Gods love.
