THE HOLY FAMILY OF JESUS, MARY AND JOSEPH

The Feast of the Holy Family: We are reminded today that a holy family will be a happy one because everything is based on Gods will of love....a love that shows itself in patience, forgiveness and sincere gratitude. The spirit of such a family will be the Spirit of God who brings peace.

SOLEMNITY OF CHRIST THE KING

The kingship of Christ, is not to be seen in terms of any kind of political control or domination. It is not of this world. His rule comes from obedience to the Father and total service of people, unto death. It is the power of God over death and evil, promised to all who commit themselves in faith to him.

THIRTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Some of the images in todays readings, may appear incomprehensible to many but theygive us hope. God had promised to bring about the transformation of this fallen world, the resurrection of the dead. Our part is to live in hope, through the difficulties of our life and history.

THIRTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Our readings today show us two widows giving generously what they could hardly afford to give. Poverty need not lead to bitterness. It can lead to heroic generosity and courage. Such poor as these two widows, stand as a living condemnation of us who have so much. We give so little, as we watch the perpetuation of injustice and poverty in our world.

THIRTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

The heart of our faith and its practice, is contained in todays readings. God is one and he is loved with all our being. We are to love our neighbour as ourselves. Both go together. Our faith in God and our love for him, informs our love for our neighbour and this in its turn, is the expression of our faith - love for God.

THIRTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

The giving of sight in todays gospel  might also be described as the confirmation of faith. Most of ushave the faith to turn to Christ when we are in need, but our faith often has to survive the negative voices around us, that would make out that he is indifferent to our needs. We see him today as the Saviour, who cares for our immediate as well as our ultimate needs.

TWENTY-EIGHT  SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

He who seeks wisdom and eternal life, is reminded, that no earthly value can be compared to them. We may agree that all gold is  but a little sand before the realities of God,  but arewe really able to follow through this image  with the reality of our living? Are we really ready, to sell what ever we have and give it to the poor,  so as to follow Christ?

TWENTY-SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

The original relationship of man and woman in marriage was to be that of perfect union - a union brought about by God himself. In todays gospel, Jesus restates this ideal understanding of marriage and calls for it to be taken seriously.

TWENTY-SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

The ways of God cannot be confined within the limits of narrow human ideas. We must be ready to see his Spirit working in unexpected places, we must never be closed to the goodness in others. At the same time we must be ready to turn drastically away from the evil in ourselves.

TWENTY-FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

The servant of God, who defends Gods mercy and truth before others, must be ready to face rejection, violence, even death. Today we are reminded that God supports those who accept a cross - not for its own sake but for the sake of Christ and the Gospel.

Sunday 10th Sep 2000         TWENTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Illness and deformity can make us afraid for ourselves, fearful about the meaning of life. With the coming of Christ on earth there came the presence and power of God to begin the work of healing the world. This new creation is still being built up today in the lives of those who believe.

TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Many people think of God as remote and invisible. Our extraordinary faith tells us, that he is also so close to us, that we can hear his Word, and know what he wants from us. Today we are called not just to hear his Word, but to practice it without hypocrisy, so that we may receive life..

TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Our relationship with God can fall flat, like any of our loves and friendships. It needs to be renewed, revitalised. In our Sunday celebration of Mass we have an opportunity to renew our faith in God, and to commit ourselves for one more week to following his way.

THIRTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Jesus healed a woman who had suffered for many years. He brought a young girl back to life. He did such to remind us that illness and death were not part of God’s order of things. He came to offer us the hope of a new creation of wholeness, life and a share in God’s eternity.

CORPUS CHRISTI

The sacrifice of Christ re-united us with Christ, once and for all. Every time we celebrate the Lord’s Supper and receive his body and blood then through him our union with God is renewed.

THE MOST HOLY TRINITY

What a pity that for many the Trinity is just an intellectual puzzle! For the believer it is a sign of how close God has come to us by revealing (but not reducing) the mystery of his Being. He draws us into the mystery making us his children by the gift of the Spirit
